The 3D View is a great way to represent both complexity and simplicity at the same time, creating an impactful view to perhaps start a presentation on.
Using relationships, you can show not just how complex the inter-relationships are but also that by clicking on an item, you can easily focus down to just that item and the item’s it is related to.
And just like every other view, using filters, you can easily reduce the large volume of items to a smaller set of important items, demonstrating the ability to see the specific items amongst the data.
The 3D view works amazingly on a large touch screen as a way of encouraging users to recognise and interact with the data in a multi-dimensional view of their business.
The view is great for creating views such as:
Multiple roadmaps in one view – By showing time by category by owner.
Decision Cube – By plotting feasibility by viability by desirability.
Portfolio View - By plotting probability by impact by risk.
Product Feedback – By plotting number of “Likes” by “Dislikes” by category.
Note: The 3D view takes advantage of the GPU Capability common in all modern laptops. If you happen to experience poor performance when using the view, please raise a support ticket and we will assist you.
The table below summarises options that are specific to the 3D View.
Advanced Toggle Active?
Views offer varying combinations of list, numeric and calculated attributes. The timeline view instead uses the Horizon value (e.g. 2yrs, 5yrs…) chosen in the story setup to define this axis.
Views offer varying combinations of list, numeric and calculated attributes.
Z-Axis (Distance By)
List, numeric, date and calculated attributes can be selected.
Reverse Depth Axis
Operates with the z-axis choice to change the perspective of whether values ascend or descend along the axis.
Shadows can be displayed on the floor of the view to provide additional perspective.
Don’t rotate items to the front
When rotating the view, this option determines whether the front face that contains the item name and image will be rotated to face the new viewing perspective.
This setting when active will rotate the scene automatically.
You can select a 3D world for the items to appear in. The difference between the background and the world options is that the world is a 3D space and will respond to mouse movements/touch.
